The center of the bowl features a single poppy bud with its accompanying leaf. The color palette used is purple, yellow, green, and orange on white with gold on the rim. All the colors are presented very pastel. CONDITION: The condition of this set of 7 decorative rimmed soup bowls is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There is no rubbing to the gold. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is. DIMENSIONS: The elegant bowls have a diameter of 8 5/8" and a height of 1 7/16". HISTORY/MARKS: The first porcelain factory in the town of Marktredwitz, Germany opened in 1872 and was known as Porzellanfabrik Jaeger, Thomas & Co. Fritz Thomas left the company in 1898 to open with his financial partner, Ens, his own factory in 1903 in the same town. The partnership prospered from 1903-1908, but Ens quit the partnership at the end of 1907 at which point Rosenthal A.G. in Selb became a major shareholder and ran the business as an independent subsidiary of Rosenthal. They continued to use the Thomas mark which is described as a shield with urns (or ears) on each side from 1908-1939 and during these years the company greatly grew and prospered. After WWII, the classic Thomas mark was used with the addition of “US Zone.” This mark is identified by the porcelainmarksandmore website as mark #2-15 used in the 1946-1949 time period.
